While we may soon find out more about Apple’s iMac plans, display and processor upgrades would be a welcomed move.
Then last month we heard the rumors that maybe a 4K 21.5-inch iMac could be in the works and now thanks to a report by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, it seems that we could expect new iMacs in this quarter. The 27-inch iMac already has two of the best displays in the industry, at 2560 x 1440 and 5120 x 2880, so we would suspect the 21.5-inch iMac will receive similar upgrades. The last time that Apple updated its iMac lineup was in September 2013, as the company felt the need to wait for the release of new desktop processors from Intel. In particular, he believes that the display in the new iMacs will use an “LED phosphor material called KSF to notably boost color saturation”. It should be recalled that Apple released a number of iMac models in October that feature displays of 27 inches. Though he failed to provide a concrete release date alongside explicit details, but if today’s revelation is anything to go by, then it’s pretty clear that Apple wants to bring the Retina display to its 21.5-inch iMac. The latter is yet to announce, if there’s any, the launching of the rumored device.
Kuo believes that Apple will see a massive demand for iMacs in the coming quarter, as upgrades and back-to-school promotions are likely to double iMac sales on a quarter-to-quarter basis to 1 million units. Even as the broader PC market continues to decline, Apple has posted multiple quarters of year-over-year growth, suggesting continued market segment share gains against Windows-based personal computers.
Apart from upgrading the processors, Apple is also widely expected to further enhance the display of its new iMac, after introducing one of the highest-resolution screens available with its 5K iMac in October previous year. The promo does not include the Mac mini.
