Huawei G8 Gets A New Variant, Snapdragon 616 Included

Huawei is doing really well as far as finances go, the company managed to increase their profits in the first half of this year. Huawei has introduced a number of interesting devices this year, including their P8 handsets, theHonor 7 and the MediaPad X2 tablet. That being said, the company has also introduced the Huawei G8 quite recently, yet another device which is made out of metal and which sports 2 and 3GB variants. The device was introduced in China, but it seems like there’s another variant of this phone specific to the Chinese smartphone market, read on.

Huawei has officially announced their the Huawei Maimang 4 handset in China. This thing is basically identical to the G8, but it sports a slightly different SoC. The Huawei Maimang 4 ships with a Snapdragon 616 SoC, not the Snapdragon 615 included in the G8. Well, these two chips are not so different though. We’re looking at the same Cortex-A53 cores in these chips, four running at 1.7GHz, and four at 1.2GHz. The latter cores sport a slightly higher speeds, as they’re clocked at 1.2GHz, compared to the 1.0Ghz cores in the Snapdragon 615. The Snapdragon 616 also sports an Adreno 405 GPU, which is, as you probably already know, included in the Snapdragon 616 SoC as well.

The Snapdragon 616 does sport a different modem than the Snapdragon 615 though, you don’t get a 4G LTE World Mode modem, but the X5 LTE World Mode model. The modem on the Snapdragon 615 actually supports LTE-FDD, TD-LTE, WCDMA (3C-HSDPA, DC-HSUPA), CDMA1X, EV-DO, TD-SCDMA and GSM/EDGE. You also get Category 4 LTE speeds with this thing by the way. The rest of the specs are the same as in the Huawei G8. The Huawei Maimang 4 sports a 5.5-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) display along with 2 or 3GB of RAM. The 2GB model ships with 16GB of internal storage, and the 3GB model comes with 32GB of in-built storage. The 13-megapixel OIS camera is located on the back of this phone, and the 5-megapixel shooter is available up front. The 3,000mAh battery is also a part of this package, and the rear-facing fingerprint scanner is also on board. Android 5.1 Lollipop comes pre-installed here with Huawei’s Emotion UI on top of it. That being said, the 2GB variant of this phone costs 2,099 Yuan, and the 3GB model is priced at 2,499 Yuan in China.
