Apple Inc. Spaceship Campus To Have Dedicated Store, café, Rooftop Observation Deck

Apple will include a visitor’s center including a rooftop observation deck at its much-talked-about $5 billion Spaceship Campus. On top of hosting 13,000 Apple Inc employees, the Apple campus will have plenty of space for visitors and tech enthusiasts, including 10,114 square-foot of space for an Apple Store and a 2,386 square-foot café.

The details filed by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) were revealed by the Silicon Valley Business Journal after going through documents filed with the city. Visitors are allowed from 7AM to 7PM on weekdays, while weekend timings are 9AM to 7PM. People can visit buildings, which drew inspiration from Apple’s retail stores, set to be made of the same glass, skylights and carbon fiber roofs seen in the retail stores. The viewing deck will have a view of the ring-shaped spaceship-like campus that houses Apple employees.

The Apple campus is still under construction and the main building is expected to be completed by 2016. The visitor’s center, according to the plans, will serve as the “public face of the Apple Campus 2,” allowing outsiders a glimpse into Apple’s business practices, culture and design. The campus will have a screen that makes it impossible to peek into the neighboring housing community, hence ensuring their privacy.

Once complete, the campus’s main ring-shaped building will take up 2.8 million square feet on Apple’s Cupertino property, while a 100,000 square-foot fitness center, and a 1,000-seat auditorium will complete the building, complemented by an underground parking lot. The visitor’s center will certainly add to the spectacle that Apple’s new campus is touted to be, while a full-fledged Apple Store is a nice replacement for the now-closed store at the current campus, which mainly sold accessories and Apple apparel.

All in all, tech enthusiasts might jump at the chance, while opening up a proper visitor’s center in Cupertino ensures that Apple is giving something back to the city instead of just taking up a large space for a campus. Given all the hype surrounding the spaceship campus, it might end up being a noteworthy stop for tourists and tech enthusiasts alike.

Cupertino itself might not warrant an “observation deck” but perhaps Apple will build some entertainment-centric attraction in the future as well. It will be interesting to see if the new Apple Store in Cupertino offers some exclusive items that cannot be purchased anywhere else. That might be the perfect incentive to pay the new spaceship campus a visit.
