Asus unveils Zenfone 2 Deluxe and Laser editions
Asus Zenfone 2 Laser
Earlier this year I reviewed the Asus Zenfone 2 with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and an Intel Atom Z3580 processor. Priced at $299 in the US, the phone offered excellent performance for a mid-range phone. Asus also offers a $199 model with less memory and storage and a slightly less powerful chip.
The Zenfone 2 is probably one of the most popular smartphones Asus has released to date. But it’s not just a single phone. There’s a whole family of products that Asus sells under the Zenfone 2 name, and now that family is getting a little bigger.
Asus has announced plans for several new phones, including the Asus Zenfone 2 Deluxe and the Asus Zenfone 2 Laser.
There’s also the Asus Zenfone 2E, which is a $120 entry-level phone.
In June Asus also unveiled a 6 inch model with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor and the Zenfone Selfie with a 13MP front camera. While that model’s not called a Zenfone 2, it basically has the same design.
If you’re keeping count, that means there are 4 or 5 models in the Zenfone 2 family… with different screen sizes and resolutions, different processors, and different amounts of memory and storage.
Zenfone 2 Deluxe and Zenfone 2 Laser
This week Asus announced plans to launch several new models in India.
The first is the Zenfone 2 Deluxe, which is basically the same as a standard Zenfone 2 except that it comes with a special rear cover featuring a 3D-cut design. This model will be available with up to 4GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage.
Next up is the Zenfone 2 Laser, which features a 5 inch, 1280 x 720 pixel display, 2GB of RAM, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, a 2,400 mAh battery, 13MP rear and 5MP front cameras, and a Corning Gorilla Glass 4 screen.
Asus also plans to sell the Zenfone Selfie in India… where it is actually called the Zenfone 2 Selfie.
It’s not clear if Asus plans to offer all of these new models globally, but I found a spec sheet for the Zenfone 2 Laser at the company’s Japanese product page, and it’s expected to be available in that country in early August. So the Zenfone 2 laser doesn’t appear to be exclusive to India. ,
