Review: Angry Birds 2

The original game was about shooting birds into pigs’ fortresses.
Video-game developer Rovio Entertainment has released a sequel to the popular 2009 game, Angry Birds. Called Angry Birds 2, it takes us back to the game’s original set-up, with improved graphics and more engaging gameplay.
The original game was about shooting birds into pigs’ fortresses. It was followed by a series of sequels, some of which were completely different from the original game. Angry Birds Go! was a racing game and Angry Birds Transformers was a shooting adventure.
Unlike the previous versions, Angry Birds 2 has background music which changes as you progress in the game. It starts with a blend of flute and drum, but as you move to locations such as Pork City or Enchanted Woods, the tempo changes to a gloomy tune of warning.

The earlier versions had backgrounds based on the game’s title theme. InAngry Birds Star Wars, for instance, Rovio replicated the look and feel of theStar Wars movie series.
Angry Birds 2 offers immersive and long gameplay. It has multiple locations and features an elaborate story line. It starts off at Feathery Hills, where the backdrop includes green hills and blue skies, and moves on to Pork City, which resembles a mysterious village with shacks. Then there is the Enchanted Woods, which is set in a forest with mist in the background. You can’t move from one location to another as and when you desire—a new location opens only when you have cleared the missions in the preceding location. While other Angry Birds versions offer about 100 missions, Angry Birds 2 has over 240 missions.

Angry Birds 2 looks a lot more animated and employs a little more effect as well. Taking down a piggy fort and freeing the birds no longer looks like a few blocks falling, it’s more like a castle being blown to smithereens and smoke bellowing out the way it does in an action game.
A red marker has been added to assist players; it shows when you are taking aim, and whether your trajectory is correct. You can even select the type of bird—Red, Silver, Chuck, The Blues, Matilda, Bomb, Terence.
Angry Birds 2 is available for free on the Google Play Store and Apple App store, with in-app purchases (additional features) from Rs.68-6,955.
