Samsung Galaxy Note 5 And S6 Edge Plus: Samsung Confirms Aug.13 Launch, Global Release Expected Following Week

Samsung

Samsung has been rumored to be holding the launch of the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus early due to Apple's impending iPhone 6s and 6s Plus launch in September. Samsung has just confirmed it will be holding that event on Aug. 13.

Ever since Samsung proved all of its skeptics wrong when it debuted the original Galaxy Note at IFA in Berlin in 2011, the company has used the same venue to unleash its latest and greatest Galaxy Note phablets. 2012 saw the release of the second-generation Note 2, followed by the arrival of the Note 3 at IFA 2013, and Samsung used last year's show to unveil the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge.

The Galaxy Note Edge was the precursor to Samsung's latest curved dual-edge display smartphone, the Galaxy S6 Edge, which is going to be super-sized and offered alongside the Galaxy Note 5 in Samsung's flagship 2015 phablet lineup. We've already seen leaked images of the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and we reported in mid-June reports of Samsung ending its tradition of debuting its next-generation Galaxy Note at IFA 2015. Instead Samsung would plan to launch and release the phablets ahead of the event in order to not be overshadowed by the release of Apple's expected iPhone 6s and 6s Plus in September.

The rumors were true and Samsung has finally confirmed that it will be holding an event on Aug. 13, 2015. The company used its Twitter account to announce the news and also created a dedicated "Save the date" page where it will live stream the event.
