Rockstar Issues Statement On GTA 5 Mod Bans - Claims FiveM Mod Can Aid Piracy
Rockstar has spoken out about the use of the FiveM Grand Theft Auto V multiplayer mod, claiming it can help facilitate piracy. Both the creators of the mod and a number of its users have been hit with GTA 5 bans. The mod creators were banned first, followed by users, suggesting this was an active move from Rockstar themselves rather than cheat-busting software.
This is all despite the fact the mod doesn’t interfere with the Grand Theft Auto Online files. FiveM is a multiplayer mod for the single-player element of Rockstar’s game, allowing custom maps, private servers and even the running of additional mods, all with other players.
Rockstar issued a statement on the matter, claiming that the FiveM mod was a breach of the GTA 5 and Rockstar Social Club terms of service. “The FiveM project is an unauthorized alternate multiplayer service that contains code designed to facilitate piracy. Our policy on such violations of our terms of service are clear, and the individuals involved in its creation have had their Social Club accounts suspended,” read the statement.
The FiveM mod currently requires a Rockstar Social Club log-in, which the dev team included to ensure users have legit copies of the game. This alerted Rockstar to its presence, and as you can see in the statement, believe it could facilitate piracy. If the Rockstar Social Club login were to be stripped from the mod, it would allow illegitimate users to play online.
Is Rockstar being a bit too tough with these regulations? Or is a necessary evil to keep cheats away from Grand Theft Auto Online?
