Take-Two Interactive Software Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto V Has Shipped 54 Million Copies

Record-setting Grand Theft Auto V earns another milestone by shipping a staggering 54 million copies

Take Two Interactive (NASDAQ:TTWO) announced that Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto V has shipped over 54 million copies globally, according to a report by GameSpot. Three months back, the total amount was 52 million copies.

It’s surprising that the game was launched prior to Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:MSFT) Xbox One. It gave PS3 and Xbox 360 another major hit title. The impact was not as widespread as of GTA V's re-release on the PS4 and Xbox One later.

Just like how the previous GTA III and GTA Vice City literally changed the game, it was GTA V that took it to the next level. It took the best of those games as well as predecessor GTA IV with unbelievable gaming experience. The narrative, characters, settings, and the city of Los Santos were all picture perfect. Even today, none can ever get enough of Michael, Trevor, and Franklin.

GTA V broke several records upon its release and listed in the Guinness Book of World Records. These kind of action games come once in a blue moon, and when they come, they make an instant impact. Apart from the long and intense single player campaign with three different endings, the online section has already garnered a massive amount of players. It is one of the most popular online multiplayer games of today as well. While it may not have as many fans as Destiny, GTA V, but it definitely has a sizable fan following. According to a report by GameSpot in November 2014, 33.8 million players were hooked to GTA Online.

We feel that GTA V will be played online and single player for years to come, as it clearly is the biggest game released within last five years.
