Microsoft Pushes Back Surface Hub Launch to January
Eager to get your hands on Microsoft's $20,000 Surface Hub? It's not going to happen until next year.
Originally scheduled for a September release, the interactive whiteboard now won't begin shipping until January 2016, Redmond announced Wednesday. The change comes after Microsoft last month said it needed to delay the Surface Hub shipping date due to high demand, but did not specify exactly when it would be available.
"Based on the early interest we see, we're tuning our manufacturing process to prepare for production at broader scale," Surface General Manager Brian Hall wrote in a blog post at the time. "To do this, we are adjusting our product roll-out schedule to ensure we deliver a great customer experience and set our partners up for success."
The Hub has been available for pre-order since July 1 for $6,999 (55-inch) or $19,999 (85-inch).
With a massive touch screen and the power of Windows 10, the Surface Hubprovides access to Skype for Business, Office, OneNote, and Universal Windows—for collaboration with a team of coworkers, or turning your desk into an enormous tablet. It also aims to replace the mess of tools likely cluttering your conference room: your audio-video conferencing system, display, projector, wireless receiver, and whiteboard.
The Hub sports dual 1080p front-facing video cameras and a microphone array that eliminates background noise. It also features built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, and a handful of ports for wired and wireless connectivity.
