Sony Corp Reveals Firmware Version 3.00 Update For PlayStation 4

Sony is currently beta testing the upcoming update for the PlayStation 4

Sony Corp. (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) plans to release a major update for PlayStation 4, in the form of new Firmware Update labeled as version 3.00.

Previously, version 2.50 and 2.55 were more or less stability updates and did not bring many changes that they were initially rumored to. Sony has not released timely and detailed updates like Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has for Xbox One, on a monthly basis.

However, after PS4 users faced issues with version 2.00, which was a massive disaster of an update, Sony has been careful and is now beta-testing the upcoming update before releasing it for the public. While this is an on-going process, a partial change log has been revealed, which mentions features such as uploading of videos to Twitter and broadcasting of gameplay on YouTube.

Moreover, PS4 UI has been given an overhaul, and as far as speculations go, it is likely to release along with firmware version 3.00 update.

Crinale, a user at NeoGAF, recently posted the changes the major update is believed to bring to the console:
“Event” menu is added that allows users to find events related to PlayStation.
“Community” is added to “friend” menu that allows users to make a new community or join existing ones.
“Now Playing” is added to “friend,” “community,” “message,” and profile screen that allows users to display games they are currently playing. You can request to join their game or broadcast the game.
“Message” function has been improved.
You can broadcast via YouTube.
You can upload short (10 sec) game clips to Twitter.

Moreover, Live from PlayStation will now feature screenshots and video clips; the ability to comment on “What’s New” feed has been included; PS Plus will be placed on the main menu, allowing users to get access to discounts and various game collections. Moreover, the option to block harmful websites from opening has been included in the parental control options.

So far, this is all the information that has surfaced, but since the update is only in beta stage currently, there are bound to be more features that would be made available for PS4 users. So far, no release window has been mentioned.
