Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) Cortana Could Become The Voice Assistant Of Choice On Android

Microsoft has released an update for its digital assistant Cortana for Android, which allows users to replace Google Now

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has entered the digital assistant space with Cortana, to compete against Apple Inc.’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) Siri and Google Inc.’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Google Now. Last month, Microsoft started testing its native digital assistant on Android. Recently, the company released an update for the app which lets users replace the Google Now shortcut with Cortana instead.

Siri and Google Now have managed to establish themselves on the iOS and Android, respectively. Microsoft is now making its Cortana available on not only Windows 10 but also Android. With the latest update, users can activate the digital assistant by pressing and holding down on the home button. Although the widespread features of Google Now are still in function, Microsoft hopes that users will adopt Cortana and use it as their default assistant in the near future, once it comes out of beta stage.

Cortana’s updated version still does not support the “Hey Cortana” voice command, due to certain hardware limitations. However, the issue is likely to be catered to in the upcoming versions.

Those interested in trying out Cortana can sign up for the beta-testing program. The digital assistant is also believed to be making its way to Apple’s iOS.
