Microsoft Cortana can replace Google Now on Android devices

New Delhi: In an apparent bid to garner more fans for its Cortana, Microsoft has updated the beta version of its digital assistant with the ability to replace the default Google Now on Android devices.

The private beta version of the voice-based digital assistant for Android was launched last month. With the latest update to the beta app, you can now press and hold the home button to activate Cortana instead of Google Now.

A report on The Verge notes that Cortana on Android includes similar features as present in the Windows 10 and Windows Phone version, but it doesn’t include ‘Hey Cortana’ support, due to hardware limitations that prevent the digital assistant from always listening for the command.

To test the new feature, users will be required to sign up for the beta testing of Cortana on Android.
