New Microsoft Battlefield In Development; Will Release In Q4 2016

Electronic Arts Inc. (EA) confirms a new Battlefield game will release in late 2016

Electronic Arts Inc. (NSADAQ:EA) has recently confirmed that the company would make a First Person Shooter (FPS) game as their core title in 2016. This news was revealed at an investors call by Blake Jorgensen, Chief Financial Officer at EA.

“What we’ve said is that our intention over the next couple of years is to have a first-person shooter as one of the core titles,” Jorgensen said. “This year it’s Star Wars Battlefront, next year it’s another Battlefield title.”

The news came as a surprise to everyone, especially because Patrick Soderlund of EA had absolutely no intentions of making Battlefield an annual series. The most recent game that released in the Battlefield series was Battlefield: Hardline, back in March. It was developed by Viscereal, who are known best for their development of Dead Space series.

However it is unlikely that Battlefield will have a futuristic setting as both their games, namely Stars Wars Battlefront and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 are releasing this year and have a futuristic setting. Continuing that trend next year could be a buzzkill for a lot of fans.

Battlefield: Hardline took a different approach shifting away from a military setting to a theme that involved cops and robbers. Whether the next battlefield will be developed by DICE or not is still unknown at the moment, with speculations in favor of them.

For now DICE have been working on Star Wars Battlefront, which is releasing on November 17 for Sony Corporation’s (NYSE:SNE) PS4, Microsoft Corporation’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Xbox One and PC. Details regarding the next Battlefield are soon to follow and will be updated as soon as EA sheds some light on the topic.

Furthermore, EA has three original IPs in development that will be launching in Q4 of 2016. One of these could be Unravel, which has created quite a stir as a charming platformer during E3 2015.

Whatever the case may be for EA releasing the next Battlefield, the company has three big shooter game series to its name: Titanfall, Star Wars Battlefront and Battlefield. And as announced recently, a free-to-play version of Titanfall will be made available for the Asian region by the end of this year, while development has been going on for a mainline sequel for the game.
