It was confirmed that there will be, in fact, a fourth installment to the "Iron Man" franchise and the movie is likely to be released in 2019.
Fans were left confused with news concerning "Iron Man 4" when Robert Downey Jr. retracted his statement that the movie will be happening. However, director Shane Black finally set the news straight by stating that there will be an upcoming installment.
With that, rumors poured in that another actor will play the role of Iron Man besides Downey Jr. It was reported by Cinema Blend that actor Ty Simpkins will be portraying Tony Stark. Simpkins had already played the role of Harley Keener in the previously released "Iron Man 3." It was believed that Marvel Studios saw his potential, leading to his promotion to a larger role.
Further speculation revealed that the confusion between the future portrayals of Iron Man was due to Downey Jr.'s request for a higher pay. Even if he received $50 million for his roles in the film, the actor was reported to be asking for more. It is believed that his request was made because he believes that he is one of the most popular actors in Hollywood. Another report questioned Downey Jr.'s ability to continue the role, due to his age.
Once again, Black addressed the rumors during an interview with Empire Magazine, telling them that Downey Jr. will continue playing the role of Iron Man.
Another report by Venture Capital Post suggested that the upcoming Iron Man film will see the death of Stark's best friend Happy. Furthermore, there were several hints of the movie's plot in the second installment of the Avengers series "Avengers: Age of Ultron." While no official announcements have been made concerning the film, it was confirmed that Gwyneth Paltrow will be present alongside Downey Jr.
"Iron Man 4" is expected to release in 2019.
