EA has revealed Star Wars: Battlefront's Team Deathmatch, a new take on the classic multiplayer mode, called Blast. In Blast, Rebels and Imperial factions will be pitted against one another in 10 vs 10 battles, with the winner determined once a team reaches 100 kills or has the most kills after a 10-minute round ends.
"Immediate, addictive, and exciting until the very last kill; that is our ambition with Blast," reads the announcement post over on EA's Star Wars site. "Blast offers a lot of variety both in terms of gameplay and the unpredictable nature of the opposing team. Actual levels within the mode also happen to hold great variation as well."
Meanwhile, Lead Level Designer Dennis Brännvall lists some of the sights you'll get to see during Blast mode: “One battle you’ll be fighting within interior levels on Endor or Sullust. In the next battle, you might find yourselves among Tatooine’s dusty canyons, or inside the undeniably cool Ice Caves on Hoth. My favourite is the verticality of Tatooine, fighting by the Sandcrawler," he says.
Blast will be a close-quarters, action-packed affair, with the Blast maps being smaller and designed specifically for the mode. They're not just smaller versions of maps you'll find in other modes either. “Say you've just played Walker Assault mode on Hoth and then switched to Blast, still on Hoth. Thanks to variations in lighting and time of day, you'll definitely see a difference," Brännvall adds.
You'll find no Heroes or Villains joining the fight too, and vehicles won't feature in Blast either, which means pick-ups will be of greater strategic value than usual. “Whether you pick up a Droid scanning for nearby enemies or a turret that’ll control a zone for you, the pickups can really turn the tide of a Blast match,” says Brännvall. “They are not around every corner though, so keep your eyes peeled."
Blast mode will be available to play in Star Wars: Battlefront when it launches for Xbox One, PS4 and PC on 17th November 2015. For more on the game, check out our E3 interview below.
