‘The Witcher Role-Playing Game’ Coming To a Table Near You in 2016.

After the smash-hit success of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the Witcher IP is continuing to expand. Developer CD Projekt Red has announced a partnership with games publisher R. Talsorian Games to create a tabletop role playing game based on the universe of The Witcher series of games. The game is expected to release in mid-2016, with future details coming soon.

R. Talsorian Games, publisher of The Witcher Role-Playing Game, is best known as the publisher of the acclaimed Cyberpunk 2020 role playing game and its associated spin-offs. CD Projekt Red has in turn been developing a video game based on the Cyberpunk series, Cyberpunk 2077, which was announced way back in 2012. The Witcher Role-Playing Game has been announced to run on the “Fuzion” system, the same set of rules used for the Cyberpunk series.

Every nerdy kid worth their salt grew up playing Dungeons and Dragons, the first in a long tradition of tabletop role playing games. Today, there are roleplaying games that cover virtually every subject imaginable. In mid-2016, The Witcher joins their ranks.

In a typical tabletop role playing game, players create their characters (which can often be anything they imagine), and describe their actions and their outcomes with the help of statistics on a character sheet and a throw of the dice. The characters inhabit a world controlled by the “game master”, who makes decisions on behalf of everyone and everything that isn’t one of the player’s characters.

This isn’t the first foray into the world of tabletop games for The Witcher series, Last year saw the release of The Witcher Adventure Game, a board game for 2 to 4 players that also received digital mobile releases.
