Fans of Blizzard Entertainment's popular video game "Warcraft" will be happy to know that its movie adaptation will discuss the history of the human and Orc characters.
To be directed by Duncan Jones, the movie "Warcraft" was first announced almost ten years ago. Production commenced last 2013 with Legendary Pictures producer Thomas Tull. The film is set to cover the introduction of human and Orc characters and the ongoing war.
According to Crossmap, the upcoming film will feature two protagonists: Sir Anduin Lothar and Durotan. It was confirmed that Sir Anduin Lothar will be played by Travis Fimmel, while Durotan will be played by Toby Kebbel. Other actors include Ben Foster, Paula Patton, Dominic Cooper, and Rob Kazinsky.
Jones discussed that the intention of the movie adaptation was to establish the story being the two factions. He said to Collider, "The plan was to start our film with the first time Orcs met Humans. I think that for a world with so much newness to explain, this was a wise choice, especially when so many people in our audience may not know anything about 'Warcraft.' 'Warcraft' should be about heroes on both sides trying to avoid conflict, when villains leave them no choice."
Furthermore, it was said that Jones and the senior vice president of Storytelling and Franchise Development Chris Metzen, are working together and have developed the story into a trilogy. There are also ideas for "Warcraft 2" and "Warcraft 3."
The film was expected to be released this year. However Jones moved the release date to 2016 in order to make way for "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force awakens." They stated that the date of release is a big factor in determining the success of the film. Furthermore, it is said that they are prolonging the post-production since the movie will contain a lot of CGI.
"Warcraft" will be hitting the theaters next year on Jun. 10.
