Chinese Smartphone Vendor Now Ranks at No.3 Globally

Strategy Analytics stated that Huawei is causing a great disruption in the Asian market, especially in China where the company’s 4G models such as the Mate7 are becoming increasingly popular. Samsung is facing a tough time in the US, China and Latin America market, but emerging markets such as India, MEA and parts of Europe are still responding in favor of the company.

Ken Hyers, Director at Strategy Analytics, added, “Huawei shipped 30.6 million mobile phones and captured a record 7 percent marketshare worldwide in Q2 2015″.

Windows 10 Mobile will have an uphill battle on its hands when Microsoft rolls it out later this year, as the company’s share in the mobile market continues to slip. While Microsoft’s FY14 sales grew, the company did not maintain or attempt to increase its industry dominance. Lenovo-Motorola came in fifth with 4.8%. This is why Microsoft sales plunged to 27.8 million devices, down 50% YoY.

Rumours are circulating that BlackBerry’s next smartphone will, for the first time, not ship with its own BlackBerry operating system, but rather with Google Inc.’s Android. Huawei aims to sell 100 million smartphones in 2015.

Samsung faced intense competition from Chinese brands in the low-end smartphone market.

The research firm said that Apple’s dramatic growth in iPhone shipments contrasted strongly with an overall industry growth rate of just 2%… Apple comes in at number two with 10.9%, which constitutes an increase over last year’s 8.2%. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd. (KRX:005930). Of course, despite sitting in second spot on the list, Apple remains the powerhouse when it comes to converting all these sales into profit, with the company’s premium-only model incredibly successful.

“Global mobile phone shipments grew a lackluster 2 percent annually from 428 million units in [2014’s second quarter] to 434.6 million in [2015’s second quarter]”, Strategy Analytics director Woody Oh said.

“As a result, Xiaomi may struggle to hold on to its top-five global mobile phone ranking in the coming quarters”, he said.
