Nvidia Has A Huge Surge In GeForce GTX Sales - CEO Confident In Growth Of PC Gaming

Nvidia’s latest financial results have significantly exceed its own expectations, driving the value of stock up 12% in a single day. The decline in PC sales doesn’t appear to be affecting Nvidia one bit, who has offset the PC pre-build slump with bumper sales of its dedicated graphics cards.

Jen-Hsun Huang, CEO of Nvidia, was particularly assured during the recent earnings called, claiming he is confident that PC gaming will continue to grow and grow. Particular focus was given to the high-end market, with a huge number of gamers finding themselves in the market for top-tier graphics hardware.

“The second half of the year we’re going to see some really solid games,” said Huang. “4K is here. Windows 10 is great. And the Skylake platform by Intel is going into production now. Virtual reality will go into production in the second half of the year. Each of these drivers are pretty large scale. My expectation is that gaming, and high end gaming in particular, is going to grow nicely.”

Revenue from Nvidia’s GeForce GTX range of graphics cards was up 51% year over year, offsetting the significant slump of built-in OEM graphics chips.

"Nvidia’s earnings is further proof that the PC gaming market is insulated from a homogeneous consumer PC market,” said Patrick Moorhead, of Moor Insights & Strategy. “PC gaming is big, and if this isn’t proof to the doubters, they will never believe."

It all sounds like upbeat news for PC gaming. Despite the dozens of reports of the decline in PC sales, it seems PC gaming is immune to this. With demand for graphics cards on the up, this can only be a good thing, as more gamers make the leap to dedicated gaming PCs.

Do you agree that PC gaming is becoming a more dominant force in the industry? Will the huge sales get publishers to sit up and take notice when it comes to the quality of PC ports? Let us know what you think!
